O filme brasileiro “Retratos Fantasmas”, que buscava uma indicação para o Oscar, foi excluído da lista. O documentário, dirigido por Kleber Mendonça Filho, explora a cultura no centro do Recife, destacando as mudanças históricas decorrentes de questões políticas e ambientais. Embora fosse uma forte candidatura para concorrer nas categorias de Melhor Filme Internacional e Melhor Documentário, a coordenação do Oscar anunciou os pré-indicados, deixando de fora qualquer produção brasileira. O Brasil, que tinha grandes expectativas com “Retratos Fantasmas”, e escolhido pela Academia Brasileira de Cinema e Artes Audiovisuais, não conseguiu garantir uma vaga nas categorias de Melhor Filme Internacional e Melhor Documentário.

A Academia de Artes e Ciências Cinematográficas de Hollywood divulgou a lista de pré-indicados em 10 categorias, e nenhuma produção brasileira foi incluída. Outro documentário, “Elis & Tom, Só Tinha de Ser Com Você”, também estava na disputa por uma indicação.

A cerimônia da 96ª edição do Oscar está marcada para 10 de março de 2024, e Jimmy Kimmel será o apresentador. As indicações finais serão anunciadas em 23 de janeiro.

O Brasil ficar fora da disputa pelo Oscar em 2024, com “Retratos Fantasmas”, é uma surpresa desapontadora para a indústria cinematográfica brasileira, que esperava ter representação significativa na prestigiada premiação.

O Brasil ainda não ostenta uma estatueta do Oscar mas já teve diversas indicações pela Academia.
